Cambridge colab kings Concepts are back in the game with another super freaky sneaker – this time around they’ve had their way with a pretty plush Vans SK8-Hi. Last time, Concepts were inspired by night club imagery and now they’ve taken it a step further (and a step back in time). Boston once had a raging red light district where all kind of debauchery went down, it was nicknamed the ‘Combat Zone’, and that’s the title of these new black and pink and patterned skate slippers. They’re due to bare all on March 30 at Concepts.
Here is a short glimpse at a new project between Vans Syndicate and Concepts. Entitled “Combat Zone” in reference to writer John Cole whose coveted work during the 1960s remain influential. The theme further highlights the dedication Cambridge located Concepts boutique has towards the neighbourhood, while we can expect Vans premium Syndicate line to serve up some genuine quality. Ahead of this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, Jeep has unveiled its roundup of concept vehicles to be displayed at the annual event. First up is the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept, powered by an EcoDiesel V6 engine and sitting on a set of 35-inch Mickey Thompson tired wrapped around 17-inch Rubicon wheels. The Wrangler Mopar Recon has a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox good for 470 horsepower. It also has Dana 60 front and rear axles, 4.5-inch long arm lift kit and 39-inch tires on beadlock wheels. The Wrangler Stitch is built with a carbon fiber hood, chrome moly roll cage and aluminum floor pan, all used to bring the weight below 3,000 pounds. It features DynaTrac Pro Rock 44 axles, a windshield shortened by two inches, vinyl soft top and a translucent architectural fabric wrap for a unique look. The Wrangler Sand Trooper II boasts a 5.7-liter Hemi good for 375 horsepower, distributed through Portal axles to 40-inch tires mounted on beadlock wheels. The Wrangler Flattop presents an upscale appearance, thanks in part to a one-piece windowless hardtop that chops two inches off the windshield. The body, finished in metallic sandstone, sits on 37-inch Mickey Thompson tires with a DynaTrac front axle and Dana Rear axle. Finally, the Wrangler Slim is the most accessible model from the bunch, packing a 3.6-liter V6, axles with a 3.73 ratio, 17-inch prototype wheels and a 10th-Anniversary Rubicon front bumper. Check out detailed looks of each model in the gallery below.
Dubbed the “Combat Zone” by writer John Cole in the 1960s thanks to its notorious violence, crime, and subsequent military patrol, Boston’s adult entertainment district saw its demise long ago due to the continued disorder and eventual rise of property values in the area – leaving only LaGrange Street’s Centerfolds and The Glass Slipper strip clubs standing to this day. The “Combat Zone” serves as the latest inspiration for Cambridge’s Concepts as the storied boutique has teamed up with Vans and its premium Syndicate line for a brand new collaborative release. Following pieces inspired by the likes of the Navy SEALs, the Harvard vs. Yale football rivalry, and the film Porky’s, the “Combat Zone” looks to continue Concepts’ tradition of unique and exclusive collaborations. Stay tuned for additional info on the release as the Concepts x Vans Syndicate “Combat Zone” is due out on March 30.
