Sneaker Con touched down in Chicago over the weekend, holding court all day at the Broadway Armory Park on Saturday, May 11th. As expected, the assembled Chi-town sneaker community didn’t disappoint, lining up early to bring the heat (as we saw in the official event recap). Also as expected, the crowds showed up en masse wearing the sort of kicks that are specifically meant to turn heads. The Chicago theme was captured by the large number of attendees sporting Jordans (and Yeezys), but in truth the full sneakerhead experience was represented by the sneakers on everyone’s feet. Check them out in the extensive gallery below.
For those of you who missed out on the Nike Air Max 1 FB “Fresh Mint/Pink Flash” aka “Yeezy”, all hope is not lost; Sneaker Politics, a brick-and-mortar shop out of the N.O., will be restocking these highly sought-after shoes at random times between now and Wednesday at all of their locations. For those of you not in the Lafayette area, fret not; they will be accepting phone orders!
Part of the Nike Air Max “FB” pack, the Air Max 1 FB utilizes the same fresh mint/pink flash motif that several shoes in the FC247 collection also make use of. For those that don’t remember (or simply missed it), the FC247 collection was a futbol-centric (hence the “FB”) pack of performance-driven shoes, each shoe meant to respond best to a specific surface; the shoes of the FC247 collection are, after all, “…designed for fooball anytime, any place”, according to Nikeinc.com. The Air Max 1 FB, with its light-yet-striking colorway, makes for a perfect warm-weather shoe. Whether you’re a “Yeezy”-obsessed fan or just someone in need of a dope pair of kicks for the summer, these shoes are worth a second look.
This release is in-store/phone order only, so don’t count on being able to grab these at their online store. Be sure to follow them on Twitter at @sneakerpolitics for all release info. They’ll be dropping 50 pairs a day, so you should have a shot at grabbing a pair, as long as you stay diligent and are on your A-game. Retail is 0.
Will you be picking up a pair? Saving up for the Jordan Brand restock on May 25th (confirmed as of 5/13: Air Jordan III (3) “88″, Air Jordan IV (4) “Thunder”)? Let us know in the comments!

Michael Jordan has undoubtedly been a global icon through his talent on the court and his endorsements off of the court. It seems as if there’s a very short list of things in the world that you could associate with the NBA legend and it would not make sense. Well, that list just keeps getting a little bit shorter as someone has again been inspired to make furniture using a Jordan Brand logo as its centerpiece. The logo that is used as part of a sneaker shelving unit is also the same logo that dawns the back of the Air Jordan Retro XI (11). Although the flattened numerical icon does not look to be wide enough to actually fit whole sneaker boxes, it still is a very artistic look to any shelf. Take a look at the pics below at the Retro inspired shoe shelf.
Popular nicknames are usually accepted without many knowing where they stem from. In some instances, sneaker nicknames become synonymous with the collaborator. In this installment of Sneaker Nicknames Explained, we discuss one of the most popular sneaker nicknames, as well as one that may be a bit more obscure. Be sure to let us know which sneaker nicknames you would like to know the story behind next week.
Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Draft Day”
Kobe Bryant will go down as one of the best basketball players of all time. However, he almost took his talents to a much smaller market than the lights and glamour of Los Angeles. It’s hard to imagine Kobe in anything but a Laker uniform, but he was actually drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets. That fact is the inspiration behind the nickname and colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Draft Day.”
Romans rejoice, we know you’ve got more going on than just Gladiator sandals, and so does Provider Mag, so we’ve hooked up with them to put on a sneaker market in your fine city this weekend! Provider have found three kitted out collectors to exhibit and sell some of their feet heat from 3pm at Suede on Sunday. If you parlare Italiano head here for the rundown.
A sneaker-specific APP like Connoshoer has been a long time coming, and we’re glad to report we’re pretty impressed with our first look. The APP allows users to catalogue and share their collections with other footwear fanatics, much the same as Instagram, but with a sharp focus on fresh kicks. We can definitely see sneakerheads taking to this to share their WDYWT shots!
Check it out… Connoshoer is available from the iTunes App Store here.
If you really thought the NBA could stop Lil’ Wayne from taking in some Playoff action live and in the flesh, think again (lol).
After his unforgettable rant about the Miami Heat, his own personal claims of being banned from damn near ever arena in the NBA and ticket disputes with OKC officials, Weezy was spotted sitting court side as he watched the Grizzlies defeat the Thunder in game three of their Western Conference Semi-Final matchup.
Comfortably clad in his Trukfit clothing, Wezzy enjoyed the game while rocking the “Fire Red” Air Jordan V’s that dropped back in January.
Check out the pics of Weezy and feel free to share any thoughts you may have in the comments section below.
